The filters used today to purify water are often expensive and the need to find new filter materials is substantial. Studies of pine bark have shown that this is a material that may be used as an alternative to conventional filter materials, such as activated carbon. However, the study of pine bark has shown that a leakage of phenolic compounds may occur when using the material for water purification. Therefore, the purpose of this report is to investigate the release of phenols from pine bark, in order to evaluate the use of pine bark as a filter material. Another assignment is to investigate the amount of metals adsorbed by the filter material.

Four different kinds of filter-materials with reactive surfaces have been studied concerning their capacity to absorb heavy metals in leachate from a municipal waste deposit. The heavy metals studied were: lead, cadmium, copper, mercury, chromium, nickel and zinc. The leachate contains high levels of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and has a high pH-value along with a high buffer capacity. These characteristics of the leachate make it difficult to remove pollutants and require efficient filters. The filters that were examined in the report are blast-furnace slag with CaO, sand covered with iron oxides, olivine and nepheline.

In Sweden more than 400 000 private households have not yet sufficient wastewater purification. These effluent is considered as an increasing problem and many onsite purification methods have been studied. In this investigation, the method of reactive bed filters have been tested by column and batch experiments. Five different kinds of filter materials with reactive surfaces have been studied concerning their capacity to absorb ammonium and phosphorus from wastewater. The materials that were examined are Filtra N, wollastonite Filtra P, blast furnace slag and Polonite®.

This study is an attempt to investigate religious perceptions and its development, function and connection to religious practise within the Swedish extreme metal scene. This is performed mainly by a qualitative method of investigation, studying lyrical content published on a number of extreme metal albums, thereafter relating the lyrical progression to the progession of the scene as a whole and also to the development of individual religious belief and practise.The lyrically expressed manifestations of religiosity within the extreme metal scene prove to be related to religious practise in some cases, most visibly in the Christian parts of the scene.The study also indicates that development of religious expression often is evident regardless of religious preference. This development also regularly relates to an increase in musical evolution and prowess often achieved with increased age and maturity.Musically and lyrically, the extreme metal scene displays transgressive attributes which assist both individual and group in the process of creating identity, meaning and individuality.Experiencing extreme metal, in concert or in the privacy of one´s own home, can be one way of perceiving spirituality in this modern age..

The purpose of this paper has been to examine the heavy metal band Sabatons use of history and to relate it to societal trends in today?s Sweden. I have examined Sabatons music, album covers and music videos in order to define a certain use of history. To do this I have used a use of history theory and a heavy metal theory. My results showed that some of Sabatons use of history could be defined as commercial and that the societal trends in today`s Sweden have in some cases affected the selection and presentation of events and characters that`s been portrayed by Sabaton.

Jag har med koppling till teoretiska infallsvinkar och begrepp rörande stilars och kulturers betydelse diskuterat black metal-kulturen med fokus på dess stilmässiga uttryck, dess symbolanvändande och dess innebörd för ungdomarnas självbild.I min studie har jag diskuterat och redogjort för hur black metal-kulturen kan te sig genom att förklara hur musiken låter och hur stilens uttryck i form av kläder och frisyrer kan se ut. Uppsatsen har visat på hur symboler och kodsystem används av ungdomarna inom ramen för kulturen för att markera och positionera sin identitet. The aim for this essay is to identify and distinguish the metal casting of Uppåkra during late Iron Age by examine related material that primarily consist of finds made with a metal detector. I intend to, by analysing maps, concentrations in the detector material and probable constructions within the settlement, find patterns that can indicate a metal casting activity. The results of the essay show that a number of concentrations can be seen and that they both indicate metalworking activities and to some degree a structural specialization in the settlement. The exclusive artefacts also indicate that Uppåkra was a settlement with over-regional functions when it comes to traditions dealing with metal casting..

Och kristendomen är ju en religiös rörelse som står för ordning, reda, renhet och kärlek.Eller?Syftet med denna studie är har varit att studera likheter och skillnader i låtstruktur, dynamik och klangfärg mellan kristna och sekulära metalband och se om de används på samma sätt i förhållande till texten.Jag har gjort en komparativ analys av låtar av kristna och sekulära metalband och tittat på möjliga likheter och skillnader. Detta innefattar även en konstnärlig del där jag, i relation till det analyserade materialet, skrivit två låtar själv och dokumenterat dessa i klingande form.Som material till denna studie har jag använt mig av vetenskapliga artiklar, låtmaterial samt intervjuat pastor Bob Beeman från Nashville, som är en av pionjärerna bakom kristen metal..

Fortifikationsverket which is the landlord for the Swedish national defence has a great problem in their forestry due to the relatively large amount of metal objects in their timber. These metal objects cause different types of economical losses in the timber refinement chain. To enable out sorting of logs containing metal objects already in the harvesting phase, Fortifikationsverket is interested of the possibility to utilize some type of metal detector in a harvesting head for that purpose.The goal of this study was to, with help of a case study, enlighten the problem that metal objects in timber cause for Fortifikationsverket and their customers of timber and to investigate conditions of to mount and utilize some kind of metal detector in a harvesting head at present.The saw timber deliveries by Fortifikationsverket during the time period 2003-2005 was used as a reference volume for calculations of economical losses. In this case study was included two sawmills where timber from Fortifikationsverket were delivered to for further refinement. Factors investigated were the type of damage metal objects caused in these two sawmills and the economical signification of these damages.

The metal mining history goes thousands of years back. The downside of the mining industry is the large amount of tailings created during the mining operations. Drainage and leaching of heavy metals from these tailings may cause major environmental problems including acid mine drainage and leaching of heavy metals. An excessive input of nutrients to lakes and other water bodies has created a problem with eutrophication in Sweden. Untreated, or partially treated, domestic sewage is a major source for discharge of phosphorus (P), which is the nutrient most frequently responsible for eutrophication of most fresh waters and the Baltic Sea. The waste water can be cleaned by filter materials, which have a high P-retention ability and which after saturation may be used as fertilizers. Four potentially suitable filter materials were tested in batch- and column experiments in this study. In the batch experiments, the following materials were shaken with waste water in time series ranging from 5 seconds to 60 minutes: coarse (1-4 mm) and fine (0-2 mm) Polonite® (heated bedrock from Poland); Filtralite® (light expanded clay aggregates with limestone added before burning); water cooled blast furnace slag (BF-slag) and BF-slag mixed with 10% burned limestone.

Syftet med det här arbetet var att gestalta fem olika känslor inom genren symphonic metal. Därigenom ville jag avgöra vilka verktyg jag kunde ha nytta av i framtiden för att gestalta känslor musikaliskt och vilka skillnader som finns mellan att gestalta olika känslor. För att göra detta använde jag mig av referenslyssning av tio låtar plus några orkestrala stycken per känsla. Resultatet av lyssningen, tillsammans med olika låtskrivningstekniker, litteratur, Kirnbergers intervallkaraktäristik och Matthesons tonartskaraktäristik, användes till att skriva och arrangera mina fem låtar. Resultatet blev att jag hade lyckats skildra känslorna bra med den metod jag hade använt, men att intervallkaraktäristiken och tonartskaraktäristiken var onödiga; det skulle räcka med mina kunskaper som jag hade förvärvat under utbildningen, referenslyssning och min känsla som låtskrivare. Jag kunde inte heller urskilja några skillnader mellan att gestalta de olika känslorna; metoden var universellt tillämplig..
